Perhaps the most fascinating characteristic of a low voltage lighting system is it's flexibility. A good lighting designer can choose where the light will begin and where it will end. Multiple switching of different circuits gives the client different scenes
within the same space. The under bench lighting stops in front of the hot tub, leaving it in the darkness, for a more romantic setting as shown at the right.
Another characteristic of low voltage lighting is the quality of the light falling on
objects. MR16 halogen lamps have a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 96+. Because of this, landscape materials illuminated by them appear the same color at night as they do during the day. The scene at the left uses small fixtures mounted on the side of the railing to illuminate the steps. The fixture mounted in the palm facing down on the planter and lighting the walk to the front door is hidden by the uplighting on the palms. Another uplight is placed at the rear corner of the house to add further drama in defining the edge of the home.
